ICCX Eurasia 2023, which took place on 6 and 7 December in the up-and-coming Kazakh metropolis of Almaty, impressed more than 550 participants with its international expertise and innovative approaches from the concrete industry. The first event in the ICCX Eurasia series brought together concrete experts from Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Russia, Belarus, Kyrgyzstan, Azerbaijan, Serbia, Georgia and other countries to discuss the latest developments, proven concepts and future trends. The trade exhibition with over 80 international companies was very well attended and the conference programme also proved to be a valuable forum for further training and exchange.
An outstanding part of the event was the ICCX Academy, a concrete technology course lasting several hours, which was led by Prof Jürgen Oecknick of PSA Zurich GmbH, Switzerland. The focus of his course “When complaints generate benefits” covered several key areas, ranging from planning to end products. Prof Oecknick, already known for his expertise at the ICCX Russia, presented practical advice on how to overcome quality problems in the day-to-day handling of concrete. The motto “Identify the problems clearly, but don't lose the customer” reflected his many years of experience in the construction industry.
The broad spectrum of case studies ranged from quality defects in various phases of structure formation to unforeseeable loss of strength and cracking. The course was strictly orientated towards target-oriented test procedures, which not only provided practical experience in the processing of complaints but also showed ways to avoid quality defects. A central aspect was “risk management” in planning, production and sales.
In addition to the ICCX Academy, the conference offered a varied programme with current topics from the concrete industry. Special attention was paid to a separate lecture session on aerated concrete, due to its strength and presence in Kazakhstan.
