ICCX Russia 2012 a complete success
For the eighth time in eight years the Park Inn Pulkovskaya conference hotel was the meeting place of the Russian concrete industry in the first week of December. The very high number of participants, which was up once again on the numbers attending the very good event in 2011, proved that the ICCX Russia has fully established itself on the market. Visitors, speakers and exhibitors also agreed once again that the ICCX Russia, with its high-class programme of lectures, a multifaceted trade exhibition and last but not least the smooth organisation, is among the top events for the concrete industry in Russia. There are a growing number of people who even regard the ICCX Russia as the most important event for the decision-makers in the Russian concrete industry.
The participants were offered a comprehensive event package over a total of four days from 4 to 7 December. This encompassed an all-day technical course on 4 December, the two-day conference event with accompanying trade exhibition as the core component of the ICCX on 5 and 6 December, as well as a guided tour of a concrete plant and building site as the traditional conclusion to the ICCX on 7 December.
Very high participation in the technical course once again
The technical course on the eve of the conference, which was first offered in 2009, is hugely popular each year. 120 delegates attended the fourth edition of the all-day event. As in previous years, this all-day event was presented by Prof. Viktor Mechtcherine and Michael Khrapko, who spoke on the current state of concrete research and technology. The impressive number of participants testifies to the need for such an event in Russia and also confirms that Professor Viktor Mechtcherine and Michael Khrapko, who have held the technical course from the very beginning, always strike a chord with the participants with their coherent and interesting event concept.
Active interest in the conference program and trade exhibition
With nearly 950 participants, the very good result from the previous year was improved again by a good 5 %. Apart from the number of participants, however, it is above all the quality of the visitors that impresses, as is confirmed in general by the companies participating in the accompanying exhibition, which was sold out to the last square metre once again in 2012 with 117 booths. For most exhibitors the ICCX is an established event in Russia, from which one should not be absent. Therefore it is also no surprise that more than half the exhibiting companies immediately reserved their exhibition booths again for the coming ICCX Russia in December 2013.
The conference programme on the first day focused on two main topics: ‘Infrastructure’ and ‘Architecture, quality and building safety'. Well-known speakers from Russia, Germany, Spain and Belgium gave the event an international character and provided the listeners in the auditorium with interesting articles of news from the whole world of concrete.
"Urban and social housing construction" was on the agenda on the second day. For sure in Russia a never-ending subject, the need for affordable yet modern living space is undiminished and will remain so for years to come. International views and solutions were conveyed in this session too, with speakers from Russia, Colombia and Germany.
The subject of ‘concrete technology’ led at noon on the second day into the conference finale. Speakers from Russia and New Zealand provided information on research and the state of concrete.
As every year, the conference languages were Russian, English and German. All lectures were simultaneously interpreted.
Evening event fully booked again
Extremely popular with the participants each year is the evening event on the first day of the conference in the Paulaner Restaurant at the Park Inn Hotel. The restaurant was fully booked to the last seat with 500 people. Business and private discussions took place in a relaxed atmosphere over a glass or two of cold beer, which is brewed on the premises. Hunger was stilled by a generous offering of dishes served directly at the tables in buffet form. Live music throughout the evening brought out the dancer in quite a few people and ensured that the dance floor was full. Once again this year the guests thoroughly enjoyed the ICCX party, so that the Paulaner only gradually began to empty again in the early hours. After all, there was still a full conference day on the agenda the next morning.
Great response to new concept
Until now guided tours of precast plants in the St. Petersburg region have always been offered on the last day to wind up the ICCX. This year for the first time a visit to a precast plant was combined with a visit to a large building site supplied by the plant.
With 335 registered participants, the organisers of the ICCX were pleased to register a new participation record for this item of the agenda. First of all the participants travelled in a bus convoy to the ZAO Betset precast plant. The visitors were guided in groups around the concrete plant and saw for themselves the company's modern wall and floor production facilities.
The works inspection was also simultaneously interpreted, so that the interesting features of the plant were not lost on those participants who didn’t speak Russian.
Once all participants had closely inspected the very interesting production facilities, the buses set off again in wintery conditions to a large residential building site in St. Petersburg. Here the tour participants were able to see at first hand how the precast elements produced at ZAO Betset are installed.
