The 2nd ICCX on Latin-American soil took place at the end of March in Florianópolis, Brazil. Like the first event in March 2012, the venue for this four-day event was once again the Centro Sul. The technical courses on 25 March were followed on 26 and 27 March by the core event of the ICCX, the trade conference with accompanying trade exhibition. A tour of a precast plant – another tradition of the ICCX events – took place on 28 March, the last day of the ICCX Latin America 2014. 350 participants were welcomed to the trade event in Brazil.
ICCX Latin America 2014 - Technical Course and Welcome Reception
Like the first event two years ago, the technical courses were once again very well attended. The visitors had a choice of two courses. The speakers on the first course were Prof. Joost Walraven from the Netherlands and Stef Maas from Belgium, who filled in for his fellow countryman Arnold Van Acker, who was unable to come. This course focused on the latest dimensioning methods, taking into account the latest standards and levels of knowledge. On the second course Professor Carmen Andrade from Spain reported on the durability of concrete buildings.
Following the technical courses there was a welcome reception on the premises of the exhibition accompanying the conference in the Centro Sul. The participants were thereby able to get a first impression of the trade exhibition. Most of the exhibitors were also present and so the opportunity presented itself to engage in initial conversations even before the official opening of the trade conference the following day. The atmosphere was relaxed and musical interludes by a Brazilian group rounded off the welcome reception.
ICCX Latin America 2014 - Main Conference
On the following morning the actual trade conference then began and the ICCX was officially opened by Dr. Karutz with a speech. On 26 and 27 March the participants were offered an extensive conference programme with numerous international speakers. The lecture programme for the ICCX Latin America 2014 was very extensive, with topics such as infrastructure, energy, maintenance, application, concrete technology, concrete blocks and slabs as well as concrete pipes and manholes. The conference room was very well attended throughout the entire event. This can be taken as proof that there is great interest in such trade conferences in Latin America.
Exhibitors from all over the world presented their companies, products and solutions at the trade exhibition. Companies from the most diverse sectors of the concrete industry were present, so that every trade visitor was able to find the right contacts for his individual core interests.
ICCX Latin America 2014 - Plant Tour
On the last day of the ICCX Latin America 2014 a visit was paid to the Pré Fabricar precast plant in Ibirama, Santa Catarina. This point on the agenda also met with great interest on the part of the participants and over 100 people registered for the plant tour. The participants were picked up from their hotels in the morning by bus and taken to Pré Fabricar. There, following an official welcoming, the participants were guided around the plant in small groups. Interest was so great that the participants did not find their way back to the buses to begin the return journey.
Pré-Fabricar is one of the leading producers of precast concrete elements in the region. The company processes 100,000 m³ of concrete annually, mostly for structural precast elements and prestressed hollow-core slabs. Pré-Fabricar has modern production equipment and qualified specialists. The company has been awarded the “Selo de Excelencia Abcic”, a quality seal of the Brazilian precast association Abcic.
Samir Wildner - Cisbra Blocs
I am manufacturer of concrete blocks, so I was particularly taken with the lectures in the “Concrete blocks and paving stones” session. The lectures were all very interesting and I had some interesting conversations at the exhibition. It was by all means worthwhile coming here.
Gilson Fuji - EGT Engenharia
When I saw the conference agenda for the first time, it was clear to me that I had to be here. And I wasn’t disappointed by the lectures. Furthermore I got information here about new technologies and solutions. All in all there is a lot of useful stuff that I can take home to my company.
Luciano Weingaertner - TECMOLD
The exhibition was very versatile and I am very impressed and satisfied. I had access to technologies from different countries here. For me such an event here in our country is very important and I hope that there will soon be another ICCX in Brazil.
Leonardo Mignella and Hideo Oki – Guarani material para contrucao LTDA.
We wouldn’t be here if we hadn't expected to get a great deal of benefit from this event. And we weren’t disappointed. The organisation of the event, the lecture programme and the exhibition was top class. But perhaps the meeting should move next time in Brazil and take place, for example, in Sao Paulo.
Cristiano Silveira Alves and Cassia Miranda Coelho – Asfaltec Pavi
We are delighted by the exhibition and were able to make many good contacts. We were shown many new possibilities that could be of great benefit to us in our daily work. Unfortunately were we only here for half a day and therefore we had no time for the lecture programme. But in any case our main interest was in the exhibition.
