For the 14th time in a row, representatives from concrete plants, the supplier industry and applied science met in St. Petersburg to exchange views on the latest trends and developments in the concrete and precast industry. The high quality information on offer, be it the lecture programme with recognised experts from all over the world or the trade exhibition with over 100 international exhibitors, offers the optimum for every visitor for his or her daily work. Both visitors and exhibitors summed up the ICCX Russia 2018 as a successful event at an accustomed very high level. Like all ICCX events, quality stands to the fore. It is important to the organisers to supply trade people with compressed and valuable information in a short space of time.
Focus on quality
The guiding theme of our ICCX events is 'quality, not quantity'. Our opinion that goal-oriented events are much more useful for everyone involved than broadly diversified mass events is confirmed again and again. Nevertheless, a good event must always be assessed self-critically. The standard of the ICCX series is undoubtedly high, but maintaining it is not easy. Every event is naturally analysed afterwards and suggestions on the part of visitors and exhibitors are discussed intensively. Only in this way can the bar be set high each time and the added value guaranteed for every participant. It has been the case in the past that some visitors implemented the recommendations and instructions of the speakers in their plants and were thus able to optimise their production and product quality.
The all-day training course, held by two recognised speakers from the concrete industry, was successful once again this year. Around 200 participants visited the training course on the subjects of fresh concrete – mixture design, manufacture and quality control/assurance as well as new materials for use in the concrete matrix and as reinforcements. Michael Khrapko from New Zealand and Prof. Viktor Mechtcherine reported in Russian on the aforementioned subjects. At the end of the event, each visitor received a certificate confirming their participation in the ICCX Academy.
Great interest and a positive prevailing mood
The number of visitors was slightly up on the previous year and what is always remarkable is the great interest shown by visitors from the surrounding countries such as Finland, Estonia, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Bulgaria, Lithuania, Serbia, Greece and several others. In total almost 800 participants registered. As every year, random interviews were held once again with visitors in order firstly to find out what goes down well and secondly to get suggestions for coming events, as mentioned at the beginning. The interviews can be read over the course of this report and also in the first announcement of the coming event.
Many specific enquiries and very detailed problems were discussed among the professional colleagues present and plans were drawn up for further cooperation. This was also confirmed by numerous exhibiting companies. The prospect of a stable Rouble exchange rate and an increase in the price of oil continue to give cause for hope of a significant upturn in the Russian concrete industry.
The trade exhibition
Both Russian and international exhibitors from 20 different countries from all over the world presented a comprehensive wealth of information at around 100 exhibition booths. Well-known companies were represented from the fields of plant, mixing, formwork and processing technology, conveying systems, concrete chemistry, fastening systems, installation systems, reinforcing steel plants and IT products. No other event for the concrete and precast industry in Russia offers so much technical information and so many possibilities to contact suppliers in such an effective and concentrated form.
The conference programme
The professional visitors were able to take in a lecture programme with a total of four different sessions over two days. The sessions offered interesting lectures on concrete and mixing technology, infrastructures made of precast concrete elements and products, precast technology and new approaches to future construction. Worldwide recognised speakers as well as local experts reported on current developments in the concrete industry. They identified trends and spoke from their comprehensive wealth of experience. The numerous questions asked both during and after the lectures proved that the subjects had met the visitors' expectations.
ICCX Dinner Party
The evening event of the ICCX Russia, the so-called ICCX Dinner Party in the Paulaner Brauhaus Restaurant at the Conference Hotel Park Inn Pulkovskaya, represents the social highlight of the event every year. The Brauhaus was once again full, with nearly 600 guests. The Russian live band "Easy Tone & Band" instantly conjured up a boisterous mood on the dance floor. Just a few minutes into their appearance there was barely anyone still sitting down. This evening offered adequate opportunity to strengthen contacts made during the day in a cosy atmosphere.
Plant tours made for a successful finale
The Finnish Peikko Group was the Plant Tour Sponsor of the ICCX Russia 2018. A guided tour through the Peikko production facility near St. Petersburg offered the participants a detailed insight into the product range of the company that specialises in connection technology in concrete construction. Further interesting concrete plants of Leader Prom, Cemsys, Beaton and Metrobeton were also inspected. The visitors were able to get deep insights into other plants and production methods and to compare their own work procedures with others.
The date has already been fixed for the next ICCX Russia. The entire Russian and international concrete industry will meet at the top-class event once again from 3 to 6 December 2019. The planning of the ICCX Russia 2019 has already begun.
